As a result of the new NCAA recruiting calendar, we were forced to make some changes to this very important recruiting camp. It originated in Las Vegas and was moved to Mt. SAC 10 years ago. The 13th annual West Coast Elite Camp was held in Henderson at College of Southern Nevada at a brand new multi-million dollar facility. We have to thank Coach Overturf and his staff for their help throughout and for hosting our camp.

This year exceeded our expectations as a large contingent of coaches were in attendance and a number of sparkling performances highlighted the play on the field. Those perfomances included Jewels Perez, Jordan Allen, Lici Campbell, and Gabby Villa all put in superb days. These players are fast and athletic and loaded with talent. Also right off the top we have to give recognition to Kendall Mangel she has added 3+ MPH to her velocity since the Colorado Jamboree and was simply electric in the live pitching segment. She was pounding the strike zone and very pitch was either a strike or flirting with the strike zone. Camille Marin, provided a highlight of the day when she crushed a pitch over the scoreboard in left center. Both these young ladies are going to be high level recruits.

Devyn Greer (P/2021) showed the stuff that is allowing her to win lots of games. She has fluid mechanics and excellent movement that will only improve over time. Ryan Maddox (P/2023) was outstanding in the circle as well. The little left-hander moves and locates her pitches at a level that belies her age.

Makena Brocki (2020) had a brilliant day both with the glove and with the bat. Makena is a high level athlete who can play any position in the infield. Her offense gets better every time we see her, and we think she is destined for big things. Kylie Cox (2019) was very solid over the course of the day. Both Brocki and Cox have the size and athleticism that catches the eye of college scouts. Rian Dirmeyer (2020) was outstanding with the glove at shortstop and is the type of defender that takes away runs from her opponents, she will certainly be recruited at a very high level. And finally, speaking of brilliant play, Jasmine Polk (2023) is simply the real deal. She can do it all and only needs to get bigger and stronger as she matures.

It would be impossible to mention all the players who did remarkable things at the 2017 West Coast Elite Camp. Suffice it to say that the talent level was very high, and all these players will have many options when it comes time to make a decision. Again we would like to thank all the people who make this camp a reality. The history behind this event is truly amazing, and any softball fan would find the roster of players who have graced the West Coast Elite Camp over the years to be remarkable and features stars of tomorrow. Thanks to everyone who has made this day the single best recruiting day on the calendar.

Please remember that the ODM numbers, while growing increasingly important, are only a snapshot of a player’s evaluation and potential. Use these numbers as a tool and work at developing your athleticism, but constantly work on improving and refining your softball skill set – both offensively and defensively.
