Many thanks go out to Bill Conroy and Gerry Quinn for their help in our putting on this Jamboree. We also always want to thank the Ackerman Park grounds crew for all their help, they do a fabulous job, and we appreciate their efforts.
As for the event itself, the talent pool was very good. One college coach felt the pitching talent was at a higher level than any camp she had seen recently. Certainly, the pitching velocities were higher than we usually see with many players surpassing that 60 MPH threshold. 2019s Ava Dueck and Karlie Keeney, 2020 Gabi Salo, 2021s Abby Dunning and Lauren Curry all got it up in the 63-64 MPH range which we don’t see very often these days. 2019 Oaklie Mogg baffled hitters with her spins and location.
We also had a nice group of hitters. While there were far too many to mention here, I will say that Megan Donahue and Kaitlyn Rocco showed why any school in need of a 2018 player should be inquiring about them! Both are legit hitters, who will hit for a solid average and some power numbers. In the 2019 class, Jayla Shelton and Jade Tomashek showed to be solid all-around players, both offensively and defensively. Jade’s game has really matured in the last few months, and as she continues to get stronger, her offensive game will simply get better and better. And finally in the 2020 class, Peyton Bannon and Jenna Beckstrom just had monster days. Both are high level players who will play at a major level if they so choose. The 2021 & 2022 class looks to be a talented group and we can't wait to see what the future hold for them.
Thank you to everyone for coming out and making this year’s Chicago Jamboree a tremendous success. We will look forward to seeing many of you at PGF Nationals. We also hope we will see many of you at the 2017 All American Game on July 28th. If you won’t be there, make sure to watch live on ESPNU. Last year’s game was AMAZING, and we are anticipating a great game this year as well. So until then, take care and best wishes for a great finish to your Summer.
Please remember that the ODM numbers, while growing increasingly important, are only a snapshot of a player’s evaluation and potential. Use these numbers as a tool and work at developing your athleticism, but constantly work on improving and refining your softball skill set – both offensively and defensively.
