After a 6 year hiatus, we decided to bring back the NorCal Jamboree. We sure are glad we did. It has always been our belief that Northern California is one of the most under-recruited areas of the country when compared to their level of talent. There are GOOD players in NorCal, and this was just another example of the depth of talent in the area.
The day started out strong getting the players ODM® numbers. The sprint times were generally very good, and we had a number of players running excellent times. Then we dove right into the defensive session. And let me tell you what a treat. These young ladies got INTO it!!
At 3B all the players were good, but Jayda Crosby, Adyson Owens, and Karmen Vasquez all showed flashes of brilliance. A very good group at shortstop was led by the sparkling play of Monica Chavez, Carly Short, Tylie Kitchen, Kaeliana DePerio, Alexys Busch, and Marisa Bryson. This group was exceptional and they obviously got excited while competing to see who could make the next great play.
At 2B, Rylie Reeves and Lana Escarcega were exceptional. Both have a chance to be high level defenders at the next level. And finally at 1B, Jordan McCafferty, Annika Norquist, and Kwinci Brown all showed very good skill sets defensively. We were exceedingly happy with all the players on the defensive side, and whoever is teaching and developing these young ladies should be very proud of their work.
Offensively, the players were good. Some were exceptional. Addy Buckley showed sweet swing mechanics off the left side and will surely hit for a solid average. Oona Capristo and Jayda Crosby both showed sophisticated swings. While Oona still slaps, she is very capable swinging away as well. Jayda, meanwhile, is pure power. She can, and does slap, but Jayda is a classic middle of the line-up hitter who will hit for average and be a good run producer. And finally, Karmen Vasquez is just a bomber who can hit it deep and hit it often. Again off the left side, Karmen isn’t bashful when it comes to swinging the bat. She is aggressive and gets after it each and every swing. One final mention needs to go to Maalia Cherry. She is a bomber who puts new meaning into hitting it deep. On one front toss swing, Maalia smoked it out of the park . . . on a 300’ fence that was 8 feet high. Maalia is going to be highly recruited as a hitter if she can just refine her game. And that will come in the next year or so.
As we tell people, almost every school in county should look at players in NorCal. It would be well worth their time and efforts, and they would find players who would help them win right away.
