Our second annual San Diego Junior Camp was held in conjunction with the 3rd annual 12U Invitational Tournament. This has become a great spring event, as sixteen of the top 12U teams on the West Coast travel to Hickman Fields and compete for bragging rights and the $2,000 prize. And along with that intense competition, the Friday Junior Camp is gaining in popularity.
Friday afternoon, forty-two players worked out and showcased their skills in front of the OnDeck crew. And I can honestly say the group as a whole was amazing. It was a stark reminder of how good players are getting, even 12 year olds. They put in a lot of work and time, and it really shows. The players are bigger. They are stronger. And their skill sets are more developed compared to players at the same age 3 or 4 years ago. They all still need to refine are the more subtle aspects of the game and improve their athleticism. Their hitting skill sets are advanced compared to years ago. And the overall the level of play seems to be rising steadily.
We want to thank San Diego Power Surge for all their help with the Junior Camp and the 12U tournament. Scott Berndes and Steve Walling are two of our closest friends, and we appreciate them. We will look forward to continuing to watch these young players in the years ahead.
Please remember that the ODM numbers, while growing increasingly important, are only a snapshot of a player’s evaluation and potential. Use these numbers as a tool and work at developing your athleticism, but constantly work on improving and refining your softball skill set – both offensively and defensively.
