The Phoenix Tryout at Sandra Day O’Connor High School in north Phoenix. Before we go any further, we have to comment on how nice the facility at this school was...wow! The softball and baseball programs have a complex that is home to both JV and Varsity fields with an open seating area that is central to all four fields, and very nice seating for spectators. This is also the home of former OnDeck Tryout and Jamboree participant Grace Lyons who will be a great player at Oklahoma in a few years! And it was great to see former Tryout and Jamboree participant Denae Chapman who stopped by just to say hello.
Now for the Tryout, we had some excellent performances. More than half the players will be moved on to a Jamboree and possibly an Elite Camp. I was particularly impressed by two 2019 pitchers, Carrigan Foster and Jackie Traughber. Both are multi-dimensional, which is great to see in players so young and have a chance to be highly recruited players in their class. In addition, 2020 Marley Foster and 2022 Vivianna Martinez were impressive, especially for their age and showed great potential.
Thanks have to be given to Randy Kaye and the Firecrackers for their help in putting this all together.
As with all our Tryouts, we want to remind both parents and players that the recruiting process is a journey that unfolds differently for every player. Be patient and let the process work and a good decision will ultimately be made.
Listed below are the players and the Jamborees they will definitely be invited to, some maybe invited to more than one. The June Jamboree and Colorado Jamboree invitations will be sent mid-April. UPDATED: Arizona Jamboree invitations will be sent by mid June, we are waiting on an update to our website prior to issuing new invitations. Please remember that the ODM numbers, while growing increasingly important, are only a snapshot of a player’s evaluation and potential. Use these numbers as a tool and work at developing your athleticism, but constantly work on improving and refining your softball skill set – both offensively and defensively.
