2018 Sacramento Tryout

We had a great two days in Elk Grove evaluating players for our Jamborees and Elite Camps. After two years of battling rain in Sacramento, this weekend was great – perfect temperatures and perfect days. Many thanks need to be given to Don Mashburn and the Breeze organization for their help. The Breeze is one of the longest running travel ball organizations in NorCal. It is also home to a large number of really good players, and college coaches flock to Breeze games each and every year. Add to that the fact that Don Mashburn is truly one of the nicest people in the game, and you have a winning combination.

What might be a record number of players will be moved on from this tryout. Forty-four players are guaranteed an invitation to their selected Jamboree and a number of others are on the bubble. This is an extraordinary number for one tryout. But the performances were very good, and we saw some very good hitters. It is easy to tell that these NorCal players are spending a lot of time in the cages working on their offensive skill set. We'd like to mention, 2021 Carissa Andrews (MI) and 2022 Caitlynn Campbell (C/UT). Both have a chance to be recruited at the highest level if they keep working on their games and refining their athleticism. 2021 Jayla Castro was also very impressive, she has excellent mechanics offensively and is solid defensively. 

Finally, we have to mention 2021s Olivia Silvestre (OF) and Leah Richardson (3B/1B). Leah, whom we have been watching for almost three years, will finally get her invite to the Hemet Jamboree. Coaches are going to love her as an athlete who is very solid defensively and can hit it deep. Olivia can really swing the bat and is fast and athletic. She had a great day and just continues to show great improvement. Both players perseverance has paid off. Obviously they kept working and believing, and now are truly ready to show what they can do on a big stage. We are very proud of both of them.

Just to touch on the new recruiting rules, it is great to know that most of the players in this tryout now have the time to work on their games and athleticism without worrying about committing. It is important to know that just because you won’t “get recruited” until your junior year in high school, doesn’t mean you won’t be seen and evaluated. It’s a different concept compared to the old model, but it will be very important for young players to be out there, playing their game, getting better, and having fun. 

As with all our Tryouts, we want to remind both parents and players that the recruiting process is a journey that unfolds differently for every player. Be patient and let the process work and a good decision will ultimately be made. If you weren't selected, don't be discouraged, we would like to see how you progress and improve. The Huntington Beach Jamboree, Hemet Jamboree and Colorado Jamboree invitations will go out April 28th and the Arizona Jamboree invitations will go out July 17th. All invitations are sent via email to the address provided in registration, unless otherwise requested.
