With the changes to the recruiting calendar we moved the Seattle Tryout from August to May and were able to hold it at Highline Community College. Many thanks goes out to John Dunn, the AD at Highline and a long time friend of the Allister family. John and I coached together and he is simply one of the best people on this planet. We appreciate his making this work for us.
The level of play was very, very good. We had a really nice group of pitchers – several of whom will move on right away. Pitchers Kate Judy (2021), Amber Thornton (2022), and Maddie Erickson (2022) all showed exceptional talent and command. There were several other pitchers with good talent but just need to refine their command. 2021 Haley Rainey and 2022 Grace Haegele were great examples of players who are going to be incredibly good as they refine their skills. And as a group, these young pitchers were exceptional.
There were several others who deserve mention, Ava Peters (2021 MI), Audrey Walker (2020 MI), Charity Sevaaetasi (2020 3B/C), and Loran Walker (2021 C/3B) all were exceptional as well. We will be excited to see them perform in front of college coaches at Jamborees this summer. All in all a great number of players were selected from this tryout, and the day continues to reinforce our feeling that softball in the Northwest is improving rapidly each and every year.
As with all our Tryouts, we want to remind both parents and players that the recruiting process is a journey that unfolds differently for every player. Be patient and let the process work and a good decision will ultimately be made. If you weren't selected, don't be discouraged, we would like to see how you progress and improve. Please remember that the ODM numbers, while growing increasingly important, are only a snapshot of a player’s evaluation and potential. They are also just a portion of the Tryout selection process, for more information read Your Tryout & ODM Numbers. Use these numbers as a tool and work at developing your athleticism, but constantly work on improving and refining your softball skill set – both offensively and defensively.
