We had the opportunity to hold this tryout at the Great Park, which is a fabulous facility. The staff was superb. The field was excellent. It was clean. It was sharp. And we really hope we will be back there in the years to come.
Rain on Saturday threatened that session, but we lucked out and dodged it. Sunday, of course, turned out to be a beautiful day as we welcomed a full house. It was exciting to be back in Orange County. The bottom line is softball is big down there, and we always find some very good players.
A large contingent of young players were in attendance and they were impressive. 2025s – Taelor Walker, Ashley Duran, Camryn Bradshaw, Isabella Cacatian, and Allysen Pitcox all showed huge potential. If they continue to concentrate on developing their skill sets and continually work to improve their athleticism, they will be highly recruited players.
Several 2024s had a good workout. C/OF Alexa Brunetti was outstanding, with very good athleticism and a good feel for the game. Pitcher Caylene Nguyen has pin point control and solid down ball spin. Finally, Corina Jaimes and Bryn Henson are both smooth middle infielders with solid offensive games.
We need to mention 2023 C/UT Lea Rachal. Lea attendeded a tryout and Jamboree last year. She did okay, but didn’t display the upside we had seen earlier. Well, she came back this year and showed tremendous improvement, with high level, D-1 athleticism and a refined skill set. The bottom line is that she got an opportunity, recognized her limitations, got to work on strengthening her weaknesses, and now she is on a path toward big things.
Also in the 2023 class another C/UT, Mia McNulty. Without question, Mia is on a good path, with the potential to be an outstanding catcher. She is a true utility player who can play infield or outfield and has high enthusiasm and energy.
In the 2022 class, 3B/1B Morgan Knight is tall and athletic and can really swing it. Allison Morikawa is a solid catcher and lefty hitter, that can also play outfield. Jadyn Nielsen is on the right track to be a very good middle infielder at the next level. She is smooth defensively and very solid offensively.
2021s Quinn Livesay (C) and Piper Tago (3B/1B) were excellent. Both will be looked at by many schools this summer.

Please remember that the ODM numbers, while growing increasingly important, are only a snapshot of a player’s evaluation and potential. They are also just a portion of the Tryout selection process, for more information read Your Tryout & ODM Numbers.
