On a little bit of a side note, many might not be aware of the incredible group of college freshman players from NorCal who are making a huge impact this season at the D1 level – Megan Grant (UCLA), Olivia DiNardo (Arizona), Jessica Oakland (Minnesota), Dakota Kennedy (Arizona), Taryn Kern (Indiana), Haylee Englebrecht (Nevada). And Sunday we were reminded of the fact that Northern California produces great college players each and every year.

We had an huge crowd at the Legacy Sports Complex, and the participants ranged from 7th graders to 11th graders. It was one of the most athletic groups collectively that we have seen recently. And make no mistake, there were some players! Right away, we want to mention 2026 SS Emalee Cargill, a high energy player with a high level skill set. Defensively, she is very skilled. And offensively, she is an aggressive hitter who will only get better. But most of all I want to commend her for her unrelenting enthusiasm. She brought a much appreciated energy and passion to the workout. 2025 Emma French is solid offensively and defensively. 2027s - P/UT Catalina Medina, 1B/OF Taylor Jennings, OF/1B Morgan Carlson,  and P/1B Kamryn Brannon - all had  a great day.

We would also like to point out some remarkable ODM® numbers. This was collectively an excellent group of athletes. And their ODM® numbers proved it. In the 10 yard dash, we had six players run under 1.5 – Kelsie Skaggs, Breanna Bartek, Hailey King, Hannah Sanchez, Caelyn Campos, and Natalie Brozaitis. Those six, along with Abby Davidson, ran legit 2.7s 20’s which is FAST. Samantha Alekman, Kelsie Skaggs, Alexis Alvarado, and Hailey King all ran the shuttle in 4.9! That is legit quickness and is a great indicator of the ability to cover defensively.  Niayll Calvo and Kate McCartney had ball exit speeds of 70! And finally, Samantha Alekman, Jewel Cooper, and Catalina Medina all threw the ball 65+.  All these are incredible numbers and deserve mention here. Now, you still have to be able to hit the ball, pitch it, and defend . . . but these ODM® numbers are noteworthy for sure.

We will be anxious to see many of these players throughout the summer. Thanks to all the parents and players who made this great day possible. And thank you to Keith Frye, Trevor Ward, and Andy Lopez for all their help with the pitching and fungo. And finally thanks to the city of Tracy and Charlie Pikas of the Mojo who takes care of so many of the little details for us.

We want to thank all the players and parents who joined us for this tryout, it was a lot of fun. Please keep us updated on your tournament and game schedules and email them to info@ondecksoftball.net

Please remember that the ODM numbers, while growing increasingly important, are only a snapshot of a player’s evaluation and potential. They are also just a portion of the Tryout selection process, for more information read Your Tryout & ODM Numbers. Use these numbers as a tool and work at developing your athleticism, but constantly work on improving and refining your softball skill set – both offensively and defensively.

These numbers have also been posted to your profile. An Allister Index is not given with Tryout ODM numbers.
