Just got back from Seattle, where we held our first tryout of the New Year. Once again, we were hosted by the WA Ladyhawks and their superb facility, Big League Edge. We always have a great time up there in the Northwest, and this year was no different. We have to say a huge Thank You to Wayne Miller and his team for all their help and generosity over the years.
We had a sold-out session. It was cool and sometimes cold throughout the day, but that didn’t stop this group of athletes. As always, I could write about so many bright moments, but in the interest of time and space, I want to focus on some particular performances that stood out.
There were a number of 7th graders attending which was very good to see and we look forward to following their progress. 2027 P Lehua Siaki, who is just 12 years old, was amazing. Her velocity runs at a solid 58 mph with real potential spin. Added to that she can hit it deep, and she will be a very interesting prospect moving forward. 2026 3B Kalani Higa is also on a very good track, she is solid defensively and shows real potential as a hitter. Her compact swing with a solid, short hand path is a real key to success at the higher levels.
2025s – SS Anna Braukus and C/3B Kenzie Stolmeier – both were exceptional over the course of the day. Anna has the solid footwork you would expect from a two sport athlete. And Kenzie is good behind the plate and at 3B. Both players showed flashes of real potential offensively.
2024 infielder Mallory Vancleave showed the skill set she first put on display a year ago. She’s gotten stronger and her offensive game has improved significantly.
And finally there were a host of 2023s who are going to be solid college prospects and showed well on this day. Corner infielder Sarah Rothenberger is solid both offensively and defensively. She can hit it deep and has the size coaches love. 3B Maleah Andrews is exceptional at 3B and is solid at the plate. OF Laila Carpenter is fast, athletic, and can really swing the bat. Infielder Taylor Minton showed very well offensively. And P/1B Kaelani Randle showed interesting potential in the circle and an ability to really swing the bat. There were a number of others who are just on the verge of breaking thru, and with another year of work under their belt, I can see them emerging later this summer.
I would like to extend one more thank you to a very special young lady who we met several years ago – 2023 C/3B Brooke Blocker. Brooke came out and selflessly caught live BP for nearly two hours. Like everyone else in the 2023 class, Brooke is caught up in the new normal of recruiting – Covid super seniors and the transfer portal. There is no doubt in our minds that Brooke will be solidifying her recruiting situation in the next six months. She is an exceptional player, a wonderful athlete, and a tough, hard nosed competitor.
We want to thank all the players and parents who joined us for this tryout, it was a lot of fun. Please keep us updated on your tournament and game schedules and email them to info@ondecksoftball.net

Please remember that the ODM numbers, while growing increasingly important, are only a snapshot of a player’s evaluation and potential. They are also just a portion of the Tryout selection process, for more information read Your Tryout & ODM Numbers. Use these numbers as a tool and work at developing your athleticism, but constantly work on improving and refining your softball skill set – both offensively and defensively.
These numbers have also been posted to your profile. An Allister Index is not given with Tryout ODM numbers.
Player evaluations were available for purchase for 2 weeks following the tryout. If you have any questions or are intersted in purchasing an evaluation, email us at info@ondecksoftball.net
