We dodged the rain and ultimately had a great day. We were thrown for a loop on Saturday morning when the park couldn’t guarantee the fields would be available on Sunday. Led by Heather, we went into a “full court press” and secured Pacheco High School’s field in Los Banos. The parents and families were great and very accommodating. Over half of the players made their way to Los Banos to showcase their skills. The others for the most part rescheduled for Sacramento that will be held in a few weeks. Needless to say we had some very happy Dirtdog families who so often drive several hours north each weekend from the Fresno area. On the other side, we are thankful to all the parents that added the extra hour to their trip to make it down to Los Banos.
The Pacheco HS facility is very nice. It was all turf, and under the direction of long time NorCal softball coach, Charlie Pikas. His daughter, Abby, is a junior at Univ. of Tennessee, Chattanooga, and OnDeck has a long history with the Pikas family. We are very thankful for the friendship we have shared over the years, and we sincerely appreciate his help on this day.
We also want to thank Andy Lopez who made the 3+ hour trek to hit fungo and threw front toss for us. We appreciate his efforts. And he is very good with the bat, so that’s always nice. His daughter, Madison, accompanied him and did a nice job helping us by feeding the pitching machine. It was good to see her, and she looked great out there fielding ground balls.
We will be back in NorCal in a few weeks for the Sacramento Tryout. We continue to be amazed at the plethora of talent in Northern California.
It is important to remember that in all tryouts we are looking for skill sets and athleticism. We do it this way to make sure an athlete can hold her own in the Jamboree or National Camp setting. If the skill sets of the player can hold up under the rigor of an OnDeck workout, and the prospect is athletic enough to match the athleticism of the other players, then we are good to go. It is our feeling that attending coaches will find that athlete intriguing enough to follow and evaluate on their own.
We want to thank all the players and parents who joined us for this tryout. Please keep us updated on your tournament and game schedules and email them to info@ondecksoftball.net
Listed below are the players selected and the invitations they are guaranteed. It is important to know that players were considered for all Jamborees. If you were not selected, keep working on your skill set and athleticism. Do not be discouraged. We want to do what is best for you and help you be successful on the softball field.

Please remember that the ODM numbers, while growing increasingly important, are only a snapshot of a player’s evaluation and potential. They are also just a portion of the Tryout selection process, for more information read Your Tryout & ODM Numbers. Use these numbers as a tool and work at developing your athleticism, but constantly work on improving and refining your softball skill set – both offensively and defensively.
These numbers have also been posted to your profile. An Allister Index is not given with Tryout ODM numbers. If you have any questions about your ODM Numbers, email kj@odmtesting.com
Player evaluations were available for purchase until March 28th. If you have any questions or would like to request an evaluation email us at info@ondecksoftball.net
