Our first Tryout of the new year was held in Phoenix with a full house of players from 6th to 11th grade. Yes, you read that correctly. 6th grader Peyton Knight was in the group, and in all honesty she was very good. She showed flashes of high level talent and if she keeps working on her game and developing her athleticism she is sure to be on everyone’s radar in a few years. Now 6th graders aren’t on the radar of any schools, but as her mother told us, “she just wanted to come and experience what OnDeck is all about.” And we are glad she did.

Along with Peyton, we had Mikaela Jackson, who is in 7th grade and will graduate in 2028. Mikaela is another young Arizona player who will surely play at a high level. Again, she will need to work hard in the years to come in order to maximize her talents. But she certainly shows early signs of being a good player when all is said and done.

What these two have that make them stand out are solid skill sets and very good athleticism. Those are the principle things we look for whenever we hold a event. In Peyton and Mikaela’s case, it is now their job to get faster, quicker, and more explosive athletically while refining their skill sets as they move up the ladder into 16’s and 18’s.

In the 2027 class, Mya Rodriguez showed a good skill set at shortstop and at the plate. And she was joined by an outstanding group of 2026 players - Eva Quesada (SS), Ashlyn Swanson (1B), Eliana Romero (2B), Kodee Statler (P), Alena Mascarenas (SS), and Soli Ramos (P). Soli is a pitcher who brings it at 62 mph with nice up-spin and good command. Alena is a highly talented SS with excellent lateral quickness and a solid bat. Kodee has a commanding presence in the circle, throws it 61 mph, and looks to be a real power pitcher. Eliana lefty hitter with a smooth swing. Ashlyn has a very developed skill set at the plate and at 1B, and Eva is just a raw talent who is only beginning to scratch the surface of her potential.

Rounding out the group that grabbed our attention are a mix of 2025s and 2024s. Jayden Scott is a 2025 athlete who looked very good at SS. 2024 Teagen Smith (P) is a lanky righty who can move it up and down at 61 mph and has a real upside. 2024 Mckenzye Boblitt can really swing the bat and is solid at 3B. And finally 2024 Addyson Borg (3B) has the size, defensive skill set, and power potential that coaches covet.

Our Arizona tryouts have a rich history including NCAA All Americans Grace Lyons (Oklahoma) and Alyssa DiCarlo (Georgia). We will be back in Arizona in May for a final Arizona Tryout as we put the final touches on our summer events – Rosetta Canyon, Colorado, Chattanooga, Texas, Chicago, and the Summer National Championships. So we hope you will join us then.

We want to thank all the players and parents who joined us for this tryout, it was a lot of fun. Please keep us updated on your tournament and game schedules and email them to info@ondecksoftball.net

Please remember that the ODM numbers, while growing increasingly important, are only a snapshot of a player’s evaluation and potential. They are also just a portion of the Tryout selection process, for more information read Your Tryout & ODM Numbers. Use these numbers as a tool and work at developing your athleticism, but constantly work on improving and refining your softball skill set – both offensively and defensively.

These numbers have also been posted to your profile. An Allister Index is not given with Tryout ODM numbers.
