We want to start by thanking the San Diego Power Surge organization for hosting this tryout. We cannot thank Scott Berndes and Dan Worley enough for all their help with this tryout over the years. Hickman fields is an iconic venue for sports in the area. It’s the Power Surge home consisting of four fields and multiple batting cages. Right now Hickman is undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation to its parking lots, roads, and bathroom facilities. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for this venue.

As for the tryout, we had a great group. The talent level was pretty high, especially on the offensive side. A number of young hitters showed sophisticated hitting mechanics and huge power potential. Defensively we had a few real standouts, as well as some solid pitching and catching prospects.  All of whom appear to be ready for the rigors of our summer recruiting events.

Norah Coulsell (2025 P/SS) was outstanding. Her velocity runs at 64 mph and she has the makings of solid spin. She also is a high level prospect with the glove and the bat. 2026 Kylie Rocha has a chance to be a catcher who can shut down the bases. The ball comes out of her hand really well. Add to that a real chance to be a middle of the lineup hitter, and Kylie looks like a solid D-1 prospect. 2026 Abby Luis (USA Athletics - Phillips) displayed the ability to really defend at 3B and launch absolute bombs. Abby is an impressive athlete with speed and strength.

Alexis Mujica (2027 C/MI) has a chance to be a high level recruit if she just keeps working on her game. Alexis can hit it deep and do it often. She will hit for power and for a solid average. She is very good defensively in the infield and behind the plate. 2027 Zaliyah Jones (MI) has all the tools offensively and defensively. She has Power 5 speed and quickness. She also has a cannon for an arm. Zaliyah is as close to a 5 tool player as any 2027 can be. And finally, 2028 Siena Balistreri (OF/SS) was brilliant with the bat and showed real potential as a defender. We can’t wait to track her progress over the years and watch her grow into a high level player.

There were a host of others who showed well offensively – Sinai Samuela, Layton Macpherson, Iliana Mejia, Tia Hernandez, Reylyn Sakomoto, and Anna Schumacher. While Rosemary Espinoza and Maven Ding showed a solid skill set defensively. Over-ll it was a deep group who contributed to making this a really fun day.

Finally, we have several people to thank as well. Sofia Mujica and Alex Riggs did an incredible job helping us. They really made the day easier on us. And special mention needs to be made about Alex’s ability to throw a solid BP. We look forward to them working the summer camps and seeing a different side of OnDeck Softball. And finally, Art and Heather Mujica helped us immensely. Art was excellent with the fungo. And Heather’s help getting lunch, holding umbrellas, and a variety of other activities was so appreciated. Bottom line was we had a great time, and we will look forward to getting back to San Diego next year.

We want to thank all the players and parents who joined us for this tryout, it was a lot of fun. Please keep us updated on your tournament and game schedules and email them to info@ondecksoftball.net
