For the fourth year in a row, Zion Lutheran Church in Anaheim was the site of our annual Anaheim Tryout. We want to thank Louie Villanueva for all his help in facilitating these events over the years. Louie is just a first-class gentleman who loves the game of softball and enjoys helping people out. We can never thank him enough for his generosity and friendship.

As for the event itself, a large contingent of players showed up on both Saturday and Sunday to showcase their skills and athleticism. It will be impossible to mention all the players who impressed us on these two days, but there always are some notable performances.

On Saturday, several players from the class of 2026 really stood out in every phase of their game. Catcher/3B Tanner Banks has a chance to be really good. She has the physicality that college coaches look for. She can also really swing the bat and defend at both positions. She will be a player who will draw intense interest this summer. Infielder Delilah Navarro stood out with her athleticism and skill set. Delilah is a quick infielder that can make virtually all the plays infielders need to make. She is going to have a fun summer displaying those talents this summer.  Outfielder Lyla Baxter was impressive. Lyla can roam the outfield grass effortlessly, and offensively she has an efficient sweet swing that will generate some power. She will join Tanner and Delilah in putting forth a real case for why they should be looked at by most D1 schools across the country.

On Sunday, we had a talented group, but I want to make special mention about the group of outfielders. Rarely do we see outstanding OF play, and when we do it stands out. Yet on Sunday, not only did we have some good ones, but we also had an abundance of them. 2027 Aubrey Catron, 2026 Kaycie Gavlak, 2027 Alina Grady, 2026 Aryanna Salazar, 2027 Kayleigh Allen, 2025 Zariah Billinger, 2027 Addison Christensen, 2026 Amy Cornelius, 2025 Taylor Herrick, 2025 Emma Maldonado, 2026 Zoe Chavez, 2027 Tia Hernandez, and 2026 Reese Fraser all put on a show in the outfield drills. Now some of the aforementioned athletes still need to work on other parts of their game. Some need to develop stronger arms. But much of that will come with growth and maturity. But for the most part, when it comes to OF play, they are all very solid. Needless to say, it was fun to watch.

We want to thank all the players and parents who joined us for this tryout. Please keep us updated on your tournament and game schedules and email them to info@ondecksoftball.net

Please remember that the ODM numbers, while growing increasingly important, are only a snapshot of a player’s evaluation and potential. They are also just a portion of the Tryout selection process, for more information read Your Tryout & ODM Numbers. Use these numbers as a tool and work at developing your athleticism, but constantly work on improving and refining your softball skill set – both offensively and defensively.

These numbers will also be posted to your profile. An Allister Index is not given with Tryout ODM numbers.
