We want to start by thanking Lady Wolfpack coach Mike Morano for helping us execute this tryout. He has been a friend for years, and we appreciate all his help. We also want to mention the superb facility he helped us obtain. We are hoping this will become the permanent home for future Bay Area Tryouts. Sigman Turf Field is an absolutely perfect venue. This is truly a hidden gem that we hope can become a regular part of OnDeck going forward.
As for the tryout itself, we had a nice group of players. With continued work on their athleticism and skill set, have a good chance of playing at the next level. 2022s Brooke Surbaugh and Taylor Shelton showed a very solid offensive skill set. Carmella Muccilli displayed the ability to swing it and solid play defensively. We also have to mention, Tiare Guerrero a solid 2B/OF and slapper, who has improved her ability to swing away in the last six months. We are excited to get them in front of the college coaches this summer.
Some 2025s were particularly impressive on the day. Sophia Everett, Lila Partridge, Jazmarie Roberts, and Alyson Walling all have solid offensive potential.
It used to be back in the day that players would be labeled “good field, no hit.” We saw lots of players who could defend but struggled hitting. This script has flipped. Now we see players who obviously spend hours in the cage hitting but less time working on their defensive skills. To be a great player at the next level, one has to hit and defend. As Mike Stith from the OC Batbusters liked to tell me when comparing players, “. . . oh she just needs 10,000 more ground balls!”
Listed below are the players selected and the invitations they are guaranteed. It is important to know that all players were considered for Jamborees. The Huntington Beach Jamboree, Rosetta Canyon Jamboree and Colorado Jamboree invitations will be sent April 23rd. The invitations for the Fall Jamborees and Report Camps will be sent August 7th. Please remember that the ODM numbers, while growing increasingly important, are only a snapshot of a player’s evaluation and potential. They are also just a portion of the Tryout selection process, for more information read Your Tryout & ODM Numbers. Use these numbers as a tool and work at developing your athleticism, but constantly work on improving and refining your softball skill set – both offensively and defensively.
ODM numbers have also been posted to your profile. An Allister Index is not given with Tryout ODM numbers.
